Washington Federal brings IT and tech department to Boise

Washington Federal recently announced a major ‘win’ for Boise’s growing IT and tech industry. Tom Van Hemelryck, Idaho Regional President, shared they are relocating their IT department to Boise from Seattle “to join our multi-state operations department and client care center.” This decision was a result of rising costs in Seattle and a skilled workforce in the Treasure Valley.
Washington Federal completed a $6M remodel to their Boise headquarters to accommodate the expansion and serve as the IT disaster recovery site for the entire bank. “This will bring state-wide employment to almost 150,” said Van Hemelryck.

He also noted Boise’s quality of life as another deciding factor. Van Hemelryck himself goes fly fishing on Henry’s Fork, skiing at Bogus Basin, and mountain biking on the weekend; these recreation areas and activities are just three options for future employees to also enjoy.

Van Hemelryck looks ahead to the next 100 years for Washington Federal with the guiding principle that “simply being nice” creates strong workplace culture and invites customers into their bank. We’re excited to see Washington Federal grow here in Boise with the addition of the IT department.
