Member Corner: Meet Jeremy Judd from Macy's

This month, we are thrilled to introduce Jeremy Judd as our featured member. We asked Jeremy a few questions about himself and what it's like working at one of the country's most successful retail stores, Macy's. Here's what he had to say:

Spending time with family reading, playing, and sharing meals

What is the most important trend in your business or industry?
An important retail trend is creating an engaging experience for customers. It's about having the right merchandise, balancing discovery and delight with expertise and availability. Creating engaged loyalty between customers and Macy's matters.
 
What is the best advice you've received?
The best advice I've received is the power of listening. Be present — listen to learn, not to respond, and gauge your audience. Something as simple as turning off your monitor or saying "Thank you for sharing with me" can go a long way and means a lot.

Who is a local business or business person you admire?
Josh LeBlanc, of the Paradies Shops at the Boise Airport, has been a local leader that has supported my career over the years. We worked together previously, and I have always admired his commitment to communication and connecting with people.
What is the No. 1 reason to do business with your company or organization?
Macy's is the premier fashion retailer for Boise with a curated selection intended specifically for the Boise customer. Macy's has what you need, whether it’s for work, play, dress-up, or your home.
 
What do you enjoy most about your company or organization? 
What I enjoy most about Macy's is how community-minded we are, not just with our assortment of fashion and home goods but how we make an impact outside our store walls. The Chamber is an excellent example of being a part of the business community and having an impact there, and parallels what Macy's does to support the broader community as well. National, iconic statements like the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks, flower shows, and most recently the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are pillars of what Macy's community-minded focus informs. Even locally, participating in the Chamber in many ways, partnerships with the Idaho Food Bank, Make-a-Wish, the YMCA, LLS, Go Red for Women, United Way, and many others are all ways our local Macy's store contributes positively to the lives of our colleagues and shoppers; and I get to lead those efforts which is so rewarding and humbling.
 
Tell us about a current or upcoming project or company-wide intiative.
A current Macy's initiative that is taking flight is our approach to the ever-evolving Omni experience of retail. Macy's is investing in brick-and-mortar stores, expanding our robust selection on our website, and connecting the two with a great mobile experience. Locally, an initiative happening now is our BOSS program that allow customers to order items on our website and pick those items up at our newly installed At Your Service counter in-store, providing fast, free, and easy pickup for our Omni-customers. In 2019 Macy's will continue its heavy investment in stores, like our Boise Macy's, in different ways. Whether it's renovations/remodels, adding top growing businesses like Macy's Backstage or Furniture, and investing in specialty staffing positions; these investments are exciting and will continue to elevate the customer experience, here in Boise and across the entire enterprise.
