The Boise Metro Chamber, the only five-star accredited Chamber in Idaho, is proud to announce the award of two $2,000 scholarships from the Boise Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation to high school seniors to pursue higher education of their choice. Spencer Kelman, a senior at Mountain View High School, and Jacobi Van Amburg, a senior at Borah High School, were selected to receive the scholarship awards through a competitive application process. Both scholarship award winners were recognized at the recent Leadership Boise Academy graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 10th. Applicants for Leadership Foundation Scholarship awards must be graduates of the preceding year’s Leadership Boise Academy, a program offered by the Boise Metro Chamber, which aims to motivate high school juniors through leadership training and community engagement. Graduates of the 2022 Leadership Boise Academy graduating class who applied for the scholarships were scored in several categories: academics, community service activities, essay, letters of recommendation and resume. The written essay topic was how the student has used what they learned in the Leadership Boise Academy program to make a difference in their school or community. Spencer Kelman and Jacobi Van Amburg scored highest among the applicants. “These two students excelled in every component of the application,” said Karyn Stuart, the Boise Metro Chamber’s Sr. Leadership Development Manager. “Some of the community service they performed included: Eagle Scouts, speech and debate, athletics, choir, service as an ROTC Cadet, Key Club and 4H leadership, serving as a lifeguard, volunteering for the Red Cross, Rake-Up Boise, and more. We’re honored to recognize Spencer and Jacobi for their hard work. We know the sky is the limit for them, as it is for all of the incredible youth who participated in Leadership Boise Academy.” Scholarship recipients are not limited to choosing a traditional four-year education institution to use their awards. If a student chooses, Leadership Foundation Scholarship funds can also be sent to community colleges, trade schools, or any accredited higher education institution, as long as the educational institution has a physical location within the state of Idaho. Students entering their junior year of high school, or 11th grade, in the Fall of 2023 are invited to apply to the 2024 Boise Metro Chamber Leadership Boise Academy. Approximately 50 students are selected to participate through a competitive process. More information and the official interest list can be found on the Boise Metro Chamber’s website.
