Jodi Gempler, Director of Development, joins host Paul Fleming in exploring the story of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County. The program was created in 1997 in Garden City, Idaho when Mayor Ted Ellis and the police chief were looking for a way to reduce juvenile crime. Graffiti was at an all time high and businesses were frustrated. It was a success! The program made a huge impact it's first year by contributing to the 33% decrease in juvenile crime! Services are available from 7am to 7pm with extremely affordable rates. All kids are able to seek services, busing is available after school, and it is fully subsidized by the community. As of 2024, there are now eight locations serving almost 3,500 kids. Soon there will be a 27,000 sq ft facility built in Kuna to serve kids birth through 18! Addressing one of the Treasure Valley's biggest challenges, DPI Staffing is a non-profit focused on making a social impact through a community-minded, mission-driven focus. Guests Sarah Joy and Jaci Gentry talk about the company being founded in Portland, in 1971, and how it was funded by St. Vincent de Paul. Today, they focus on matching individuals who have faced employment barriers with a career they can flourish in. Lillian Santos Stables is the new Community Outreach Regional Manager (Corporate Responsibility Team) for Southwest Airlines. Previously, she was a teacher running the education program for the 4th largest jail in the nation. So, she's experienced the outcome of a lack of investment in communities and has a strong passion for making a difference. She was drawn to Southwest's people first culture, and commitment to communities. Southwest started in Dallas, Texas by lawyers and like most great business origin stories, a drawing on a napkin.
