Jodi Gempler, Director of Development, joins host Paul Fleming in exploring the story of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County. The program was created in 1997 in Garden City, Idaho when Mayor Ted Ellis and the police chief were looking for a way to reduce juvenile crime. Graffiti was at an all time high and businesses were frustrated. It was a success! The program made a huge impact it's first year by contributing to the 33% decrease in juvenile crime! Services are available from 7am to 7pm with extremely affordable rates. All kids are able to seek services, busing is available after school, and it is fully subsidized by the community. As of 2024, there are now eight locations serving almost 3,500 kids. Soon there will be a 27,000 sq ft facility built in Kuna to serve kids birth through 18!
