Micron’s collaboration with the Boise Metro Chamber and other regional organizations has been instrumental in fostering a strong business climate. These partnerships help connect Micron with local talent, align its expansion with broader development goals and ensure that its success benefits the entire business ecosystem. Through its Idaho Community Investment Framework, Micron is committing $75 million over the next decade to train and equip the future workforce with local education and training providers, as well as advance economic initiatives that strengthen the region.
As the only U.S.-based manufacturer of leading-edge memory and storage solutions, Micron plays a critical role in enabling technologies that power AI and modern electronics. Boise is home to Micron’s global corporate headquarters and its Technology Innovation Center of Excellence, including the only DRAM R&D fabrication facility in North America. The company’s plans to build two high-volume fabs in Idaho will create over 17,000 new jobs and further establish Boise as a global hub for semiconductor leadership. To support this expansion, Micron is investing heavily in workforce development. The company partners with Idaho nonprofits, schools, community colleges and universities to build a robust STEM talent pipeline. Signature programs like Chip Camp and Careers in a High-Tech World have reached thousands of K–12 students around the state. Additionally, collaborations with Boise State University, the University of Idaho and the College of Western Idaho are expanding post-secondary training, experiential learning and registered apprenticeship opportunities. This past year, Micron celebrated the first cohort of individuals to complete the Registered Apprenticeship Program in Idaho and welcomed the biggest cohort to date of 22 new apprentices. In summer 2025, Micron hosted over 200 interns at its Boise campus many of whom will become full-time hires at the company. Micron is also setting a high bar for sustainability and infrastructure. Its Boise site sources renewable electricity from the Black Mesa solar project and is designed to meet LEED Gold standards. Features like zero liquid discharge and on-site concrete batching are reducing environmental impact while supporting efficient construction. For the business community, Micron’s expansion represents more than growth—it’s a model of innovation, partnership and strategic investment. Its presence strengthens the local economy, supports a skilled workforce and reinforces Boise’s position as a competitive player in the global tech landscape. visit micron.com to learn more.
