President Obama Signs Legislation Designating Boulder-White Clouds Region New Wilderness Area

After years of environmentalists' advocacy and a decade of support from Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, the Boulder-White Clouds region is now a protected wilderness area. Just three days ago, President Obama signed legislation granting the strongest level of protection given to public land to 275,665 acres to be designated as three separate wilderness areas: the Hemingway-Boulders Wilderness, the White Clouds Wilderness, and the Jim McClure-Jerry Peak Wilderness. 

Stokin’ Joe’s Beverages Launches New Program to Fight Hunger

Over 250,000 Idahoans do not have sufficient food to live a healthy lifestyle.  Stokin’ Joe’s Beverages, a coffee company based out of Twin Falls, has formed a coalition with other western businesses to fight hunger by creating of a cash donation program.  The program, called Ninety9 Down, will provide meals to the hungry.  Here’s how it works: Stokin’ Joe’s will sell gift boxes containing coffee from Silver Cup Roasters in Kellogg, ID, apparel with the Ninety9 Down logo, and organic snack bars from This Bar Saves Lives, based in Venice, CA. 

Travel Advisory Board Discusses Boise Centre Expansion, Boulder-White Clouds Monument

The Chamber's Travel Industry Advisory Board meeting was hosted by the Boise Centre last week, where attendees listened to a couple of proposals on separate matters affecting the Boise Valley and surrounding areas.

On behalf of our Travel Industry Advisory Board and our more than 1,820 members, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Rep. Mike Simpson for his support of H.R. 4450, the Travel Promotion, Enhancement, and Modernization Act of 2014. We were pleased to hear that the bill passed the House yesterday and the Senate version could be up for consideration as early as this week.
