Annual Business Awards & Recognition
The Boise Metro Chamber, as well as many other organizations throughout Idaho, honor businesses with awards throughout the year.  Below is a listing of award program details, nomination information and contact numbers, from both the Chamber and other organizations, for your reference.

2008 Small Business of the Year Awards
Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce

The spirit of the Small Business Awards is to recognize those businesses that have a history of outstanding business practices in the Boise community.  This award honors the entrepreneurship, sustainability, productivity and effort put forth in a small business.

Candidates must be:  a Chamber member in good standing; a for-profit venture; locally owned and privately held; profitable and/or demonstrating fiscal responsibility and adequate capitalization in the last fiscal year; a company employing fewer than 200 full time equivalent employees and in the business for a minimum of three successive years by the current ownership.

The Small Business Awards luncheon will be held on June 21, 2007 at the Boise Centre on the Grove.  The luncheon is part of a day of activities including the Business-2-Business Trade Show and Business After Hours.  Nomination deadline is May 16th, 2008.

Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility

The Boise Metro Chamber and Idaho First Lady Patricia Kempthorne are encouraging employers to apply for the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.  Employers in the Boise area-one of 16 communities nationwide chosen to participate in this initiative-are invited to apply.

The Sloan Awards will honor small, medium and large organizations in the public and private sector that successfully use workplace flexibility to meet both business and employee needs.  The Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce is partnering with When Work Works to present the Sloan Awards to local employers.

Winners will be honored here locally and will also receive national recognition.  Applications are being accepted online at  www.whenworkworks.org  from November 15, 2005 through January 13, 2006.

When Work Works is a project of the Families and Work Initiative, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Workforce Preparation and Idaho First Lady Patricia Kempthorne’s Twiga Foundation.

2005 Business Woman of the Year

Candidates for the Business Woman of the Year will be judged based on their dedication to business growth, employee development, owner and personal accomplishments, and community involvement and advocacy for women in business.  In order to be fully considered please include the following information and materials with your completed nomination application:

A detailed overview of candidate including business performance and history, mentoring, leadership in the community and other awards. 

 Business marketing and publicity collateral materials with photos, if applicable.

Letter of recommendation from financial institution or certification of financial performance from CPA.

EnviroGuard Pollution Prevention Award

Recognizing Outstanding Achievement in Pollution Prevention.  Boise City established the EnviroGuard Pollution Prevention Award in 1998. The award is presented to Boise businesses demonstrating notable pollution prevention efforts.

Pollution prevention is any activity, including the use of materials, processes, or practices that reduce or eliminate the creation of pollutants or wastes at the source. Also called source reduction, these efforts will reduce waste volumes and/or toxicity of wastes generated. Benefits include lower operating costs, improved working conditions and productivity, reduced liability, and stewardship of the environment.

2004 Idaho Woman Entrepreneur of the Year -
Idaho Business Review

A panel of distinguished Idaho business leaders will review completed nominations and make the final determination.  Finalists will be profiled in a special Idaho Business Woman magazine.  Winner will be announced at the Woman Entrepreneur Awards Banquet, 2005.

Idaho Governor's Export Marketing Award

The Idaho Export Council annually sponsors the awards as part of the Idaho World Trade Day celebration in Idaho.  Categories include:  Export Marketing for firms with under 100 employees, Export Marketing for firms with over 100 employees, and one or more Special Awards for significant contributions to state and national economic advancement in support of exporting Idaho products and services.  Award recipients will receive a plaque and the use of the Idaho Governor's Export Marketing Logo.

Integrity Counts!  Better Business Bureau, Inc.

The Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau serving Southwest Idaho and Eastern Oregon developed Integrity Counts! in 1997. The purpose is to recognize businesses in the surrounding communities for demonstrating a commitment to integrity and ethical business practices. 

The program begins each year in early spring with a nomination process that calls out to communities from Ontario to Twin Falls, up to Sun Valley and New Meadows.

Minority Small Business Person of the Year
U.S. Small Business administration

The contributions of small minority owned companies to our economy and our community are substantial and significant, certainly worthy of recognition and appreciation.  Every year SBA selects a Minority small Business Person of the Year in each state. 

Nominations for the award may be made by chambers of commerce, banks, trade associations, or other agencies.  The winner will be eligible for regional and national recognition during Minority Enterprise Development Week in Washington D.C.

Nomination packets should be postmarked or hand delivered to SBA's Boise District Office no later than July 16, 2005.

Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award

In offering this awards program the Idaho Psychological Association wishes to honor businesses and other organizations that are committed to creating a healthy work environment for their employees.  The awards recognize practices in four areas of effort:  employee involvement, family support, employee development, and health and safety.
