LB Class of 2015 Kicks Off Legislative Session with Tour of Capitol

January was a busy month for the Boise Chamber, as is usually the case with the start of Idaho's Legislative Session. The Idaho Legislature convenes at the Idaho State Capitol and meets annually from January into March or April.

Chamber Accepting Nominations for 2015 Small Business of the Year & Chamber Excellence Awards

The Chamber is currently accepting nominations for our 2015 “Small Business of the Year & Chamber Excellence” Awards. Nominations are due March 27th. The Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce has a long-standing tradition of recognizing our members’ excellence. Each year we honor our Chamber business and nonprofit members with awards that are featured at our annual Small Business of the Year & Chamber Excellence Awards Luncheon.

Idaho Chamber Alliance's Lobbyist Developing Plan for Local Option Sales Tax

John Watts, a lobbyist for the Idaho Chamber Alliance (of which the Boise Chamber is an active member), is working with Sen. Chuck Winder (R-Boise) on a more acceptable version of a local option sales tax increase. Money raised from this tax increase could help cover utility costs and infrastructure or other public amenities like parks, projects that would help attract more businesses to Idaho. 

Boise Chamber Endorses Add the Words, Uber Amongst Other Local & State-Wide Issues

The Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce has added several statewide and local issues to its 2015 legislative agenda. The local issues include support for the Gowen STRONG coalition, the LIV Boise Early Childhood Education Initiative, the St. Luke’s Master Plan, and Uber’s operations in Boise.

Chamber Applauds Governor's Plan to Lower Idaho's Income Tax

On Monday during his State of the State address, Governor Butch Otter highlighted a five-year plan to reduce the state's income tax rate, a move that businesses in Idaho have been rallying in support of for several years. In a proposal to lower Idaho's corporate and individual income tax from 7.4 percent to 6.9 percent, Governor Otter's plan would  eventually eliminate the top tax bracket, affecting individual taxpayers earning $10,718 or more per year and couples filing jointly earning at least $21,436.
