Hero2Hired (H2H) Event Focuses on Hiring Veterans

Often, U.S. soldiers returning home from Iraq, Afghanistan, and other tours of duty struggle to find jobs. Veterans aren't always sure how to market the skills they acquired in the military as they apply for conventional jobs, although they have many unique skills that translate very well. The Hero2Hired job fair is a way for the Chamber and the Boise Valley community to say thank you to veterans and to ensure their transition back to civilian life is as smooth and productive as possible.

The Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with Hero2Hired (H2H), the Employer Support for the Guard and reserve (ESGR), the Idaho Department of Labor (IDOL), and the U.S. Department of Labor to present this year's second Hero2Hired Hiring Event. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Ford Idaho Center, 16200 Idaho Center Blvd., Nampa.

Last year, after completing interviews, more than 80 job fair attendees received job offers right on the spot. In addition, the companies present planned to hire more than 325 additional positions over the course of the next 12 months.

This event will feature area businesses with open positions who are interested in hiring veterans, active duty military, members of the National Guard and Reserve, and military spouses.  If you fit one of these criteria and are unemployed, under-employed, or simply looking for a change, this event will offer over 100 area employers with hundreds of open positions (see below for a full list of companies and employers who will be hiring at the event).

To prepare for the hiring event, H2H and the IDOL are offering "Hiring Event Preparation" workshops in several different cities during August to focus on resume writing, interview preparation, Dress for Success, and other important topics. Dates and times are posted to the Idaho Department of Labor's website at www.labor.idaho.gov. Click here to see a full calendar of workshops offered this month.

This Hero2Hired event is free to both employers and job seekers, and registration is available online on the Idaho Department of Labor's website or the Boise Chamber website's community events calendar.
