Dr. Pate Talks to BYP Members About Innovation and the Future of Healthcare

The Boise Young Professionals (BYP) had an opportunity to hear from Dr. David Pate, President & CEO of St. Luke’s Health System, at their ‘Unplugged’ event on Wednesday evening, June 25th at Berryhill & Co.

Dr. Pate led his talk with how important it is to be an authentic leader. He addressed his own shaved head and face how that came about. In an act of compassion for their patients, several of St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute nurses recently decided to shave their heads to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Upon hearing this, Dr. Pate asked if he could help by shaving his head, as well, in hopes of raising a few more dollars for their effort.

Dr. Pate made several key points during his hour-long talk included how important system-wide access to medical records will be in the near future, how innovation can help the future of healthcare, and how important it is to align with partners with the same vision. He also addressed the issue of childhood obesity and engaged in a question and answer session.

Christopher Zahn, an active member of BYP and owner of Zee's Rooftop Cafe, attended the event Wednesday night and said he had been looking forward to it since he'd known Dr. Pate for several years. Zahn said, "I was really impressed by the number of questions he took after his talk, and the care he took to answer each person's question to the best of his ability. Someone even asked him how he would change the healthcare industry if he had a magic wand, and he went into extensive detail with his answer."

We are so fortunate in this community to have access to leaders like Dr. Pate who are willing to share information and engage with us on this level. For future BYP events, including the ‘Unplugged’ series, visit www.boiseyp.org.
