Congratulations to CSHQA On Becoming A 100+-Year Chamber Member!

CSHQA, an architecture and engineering firm, is celebrating 125 years of continuous operation!  It was established in 1889 as William S. Campbell Architects.  Boise had a population of about 2,300.  Campbell designed the Idanha Hotel in 1900 and Boise’s Central Fire Station with partner Charles W. Wayland in 1903.  James A. Fennel joined in 1904 the name changed to Wayland & Fennel Architects.  Wayland & Fennel joined the Boise Chamber in 1910.

Charles V. “Ike” Wayland, son of the senior Wayland, joined in 1929.  Projects completed through mid-century include: Idaho Statesman (1910), El Korah Temple (1928), original Idaho Power building (1932), numerous schools, and the first Eddie’s Bakery (1942).

Glen Cline and his friend Neil Smull joined in 1949 and 1961, respectively.  Projects included the Idaho Historical Museum (1950), Skaggs Drug Stores in Salt Lake City and Denver, a new science building for Boise Junior College (1954), the Bank of Idaho (1963, now Key Bank) and Morrison-Knudson Plaza (1969, now URS).

Shortly after Robert Hamill and Allen Quintieri joined in 1969 and 1970, the firm became Cline Smull Hamill Quintieri Associates.  The name was shortened to CSHQA in 1985.  Past president Jeff Shneider joined the firm from the University of Nebraska in 1974.

Projects included Boise Cascade (1971, associate to SOM Architects), the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome (1976), the BSU Pavilion (1982), Boise Zoo and world renown, energy efficient Amity Elementary.

CSHQA designed Albertsons stores across the nation, and now designs Whole Foods Markets throughout the West.  CSHQA re-designed the Boise Airport Terminal numerous times over 50+ years and led the team that planned and designed the $120 million restoration and renovation of the Idaho State Capitol (completed 2010).

CSHQA architects and engineers have become experts in energy efficient and sustainable design.  Their recently renovated office at 2nd and Front Streets uses natural light, geothermal energy, LED lighting and high performance HVAC systems with the goal of achieving LEED platinum certification.  Thankful to clients and community – past, present and future – the firm continues to thrive.
